Montinutra closes 1Me round from Metsä Spring and business angels
March 19, 2021
Montinutra Ltd, a startup converting forest industry side streams into high-value bioactive products, closed a financing round of approximately 1M EUR from Metsä Group’s innovation company Metsä Spring and current and new private investors. The investment round was announced at the beginning of March.
Montinutra is the subsidiary company of Montisera, a company that took part in Pitch Finland back in 2017 and managed to attract FiBAN business angels Juha Siitonen, Juha Kurkinen, and Reima Linnanvirta on board together with an international group of investors from Finland to Jordania, Linnanvirta leading the syndicate.
Montinutra intends to produce valuable ingredients for the cosmetics, food, and beverage, and pharmaceutical industries using forest industry side streams as its raw material. Metsä Group has two spruce sawmills in Finland, which may provide sawdust for production. In 2021, Montinutra will build a pilot-scale production facility and will continue to develop bioactive products and customer applications. “We are aiming to work very closely with few potential customers in commercializing the product applications”, says Jukka Mäkelä, Managing Director at Montinutra.
“Montinutra convinced investors and especially Metsä Group with a clear vision, sustainability, and innovative products. I believe Metsä Spring’s broad know-how and strong competence will be important for Montinutra’s future development”, tells Juha Siitonen, one of the private investors in the company.
