Universities in Finland are advancing their roles to turning research into competitive products and services, as well as enabling deep-technology businesses to be established. Helsinki Innovation Services (HIS), owned by the University of Helsinki, is a commercialization expert uniting researchers and the private sector, with the aim of promoting the utilization of innovations based on academic research in society.
About one-fifth of the ideas and inventions picked up for HIS’s commercialization preparations are entering the market. Over the past five years, more than 30 inventions have been sold or licensed, with a total value of almost 5 million euros before royalty payments. Spinouts are also generated at a steady pace of an average of 2-5 per year.
We will showcase several spinouts as well as R2B research projects in the Research Spinout Showcase event on 12th May. The event is organized by FiBAN, University of Helsinki, Helsinki Innovation Services, and the Finnish Venture Capital Association (FVCA).

Veil.AI Oy
Helping Life Science and Healthcare organizations in transborder data collaborations
In healthcare, patients’ health data is made secret to ensure privacy. Yet being able to share actual patient data includes many benefits. How can we improve accessibility and privacy, maintaining both quality and utility?
The VEIL.AI Anonymization Engine creates high-quality low level anonymized data for pharmaceutical companies, MedTech, and hospitals. It makes sensitive data safe to use for research, development, and innovation without compromising patient privacy.
