The world’s largest innovation community in the raw materials sector joins FiBAN – bringing startups and teams in the pipeline for investors
May 18, 2022
Today, only a fraction of the most relevant raw materials are produced in Europe. This can and will be changed through innovation in recycling, substitution, processing, mining, and exploration. EIT RawMaterials' objective is to secure a sustainable raw materials supply by driving innovation, education, and entrepreneurship across European industrial ecosystems.
The new partnership with EIT RawMaterials is a two-way street that will benefit entrepreneurs and innovators as well as business angels and VCs.
“In our portfolio, we have almost 400 projects in different phases, and we are constantly looking for new innovations to support,” says Mikko Korhonen, Business Development Manager at the EIT RawMaterials Innovation Hub Baltic Sea. “Most of our teams and startups involved in our programs are at a very early stage. They are most likely looking for their first seed round”, he adds.
For angel investors and VCs, EIT RawMaterials can bring in a pipeline of teams and startups from the raw material sector in the Nordic, Baltic, and European regions looking for seed funding.

“Joining forces with FiBAN will unlock great potential for Finnish startups to get supported through our programs. They will get access not only to maybe their first financial support and the European network of potential customers but also professional programs for coaching entrepreneurs in different stages,” says Korhonen.
“This first year of partnership we are looking much forward to exploring how the FiBAN and EIT RawMaterials networks can benefit from collaborating”.
Some of the opportunities could be to co-organize match-making events, provide access to services and create greater visibility for funding opportunities.
